Why Organic?

Posted by Niki Addison - Mum first, Managing Director second. on

Hands up – I didn’t even know much about Organic Skincare or Organic Cotton when my little girl was a baby, my learning curve only began around 6 months ago when I began to seek help to shift my muffin top! Where’s the connection then? Well I decided to make changes to my diet and lifestyle in the hope of shifting said muffin top and in the process learnt a whole lot more, you don’t know what you don’t know they say – and there was so much I didn’t know about. It is easy to say “Don’t use this or that” “ Buy this, buy that” but WHY?

The link between my muffin top and organic baby skincare is really seated around learning about processed food bizarrely. Everything you put on your skin and your baby’s skin ends up in your body or in their body – just the same as the food we eat. So is there an argument to say you shouldn’t put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t eat? It all comes down to choice. We all make choices about what food we eat, processed or fresh? Your body, and your little ones body, understands ingredients from the earth, it doesn’t understand chemicals and synthetics, it cannot process these “fake” ingredients so it is possibly not surprising that skin irritations and reactions can occur when certain ingredients come into contact with the skin.

I chose to select a beautiful range of baby organic skincare for Poppy And The Pirate knowing that not only are organic skincare products better for the environment, organic farming eliminates the use of synthetic chemicals and fertilizers, but also the products would be kind to baby’s skin and also mummy’s skin too. Did you know a baby’s skin is up to 5 times thinner than that of an adult? Little Butterfly Organics is a perfect range of baby skincare that is free from mineral oil, paraffin, parabens, SLS, Silicones, DEA, TEA, PEG’s and artificial fragrances. Using only the finest ingredients Little Butterfly products never fail to relax me. Every mum needs a nice relaxing bath or a lovely rejuvenating massage – just use baby’s products, the sweet smell of mandarin and pure orange essential oil is gently infused into every product.

And then there is the range of Magnus & Mouse organic cotton baby bedding. Gone are the days of organic cotton being boring and plain – not with Magnus & Mouse – the designs are fresh and funky and will compliment any nursery. My favourite is Cloudy Day with its lilac and beautiful blue clouds it really brightens up any cloudy day. My thoughts are the same really as the skincare, putting your baby down to sleep on products you know are free from nasties is just a good thing to do, it makes sense.

Finally to compliment the skincare and bedding I have chosen a range of wonderful organic cotton baby toys, ideal new baby gifts they are all super cute adorable little pals for your baby. Whether you prefer the traditional Maud N Lil gifts which come in a little gift box or the funkier colours of Pebble’s Fair Trade Organic Cotton Crochet range there really is something for everyone.

As I said earlier, it’s all down to choice and with a fab range of baby organic products to choose from, without an extortionate price tag , it’s easy to make the best choices for your precious little one.
